At Gen-All, we were deeply saddened to hear the news that InCommon will be closing at the end of May.
Over the years, InCommon has played an important role in championing intergenerational connection, creating opportunities for school children and older neighbours to build meaningful relationships through shared experiences, creativity, and conversation. Their work has demonstrated the value of bringing generations together in ways that strengthen communities and reduce isolation.
Like many across the intergenerational sector, we have admired the warmth, care, and integrity that has shaped their programmes and partnerships. While the closure of any organisation dedicated to social connection is difficult, we are encouraged by the thoughtful and collaborative way InCommon has approached its legacy planning.
We are therefore incredibly proud to share that Gen-All has been invited to become a legacy partner for InCommon, continuing elements of their events programme, including the much-loved Age Friendly Awards, which will return in 2027.
The Age Friendly Awards have become an important opportunity to celebrate individuals, organisations, and communities working to build more connected and inclusive societies across generations. We recognise the significance of this responsibility and are committed to honouring the spirit and purpose of the awards as they continue into their next chapter.
At Gen-All, we believe Intergenerational Practice is not simply about bringing people together. It is about creating cultures where people of all ages are recognised as contributors, learners, leaders, and active participants within their communities. The work of InCommon has reflected these same values and we are honoured to help carry aspects of that vision forward.
We also want to acknowledge the wider organisations supporting InCommon’s legacy. The Linking Network will continue the Empower platform and Magic Me will carry forward aspects of InCommon’s intergenerational programming. Together, this reflects the strength and collaboration that exists across the intergenerational field.
As we look ahead to 2027 and the return of the Age Friendly Awards, we do so with gratitude for all that InCommon has contributed and with a shared commitment to ensuring the importance of intergenerational connection continues to grow.
To the entire InCommon team, thank you for the care, imagination, and joy you have brought to communities across the UK. Your impact will continue far beyond this final chapter.
